Excessive Heat Warning in Effect Until 10 P.M. Sunday

July 17, 2019

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning, which is in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday evening. The combined heat and high humidity will lead to dangerously HOT CONDITIONS through the weekend across much of the region.

  • Heat Index Values: Up to 110°F due to temperatures in the upper 90s
  • Timing: The highest Heat Index values will occur during the daytime, especially on Saturday, and there will not be much relief at night.
  • Impact: The excessive heat may quickly cause heat stress or heat stroke, especially during outdoor exertion or extended exposure. Symptoms include: nausea, lightheadedness, racing pulse, and confusion. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 9-1-1.

Actions to avoid heat-related illness:

  • Stay in an air-conditioned room
  • Stay out of the sun
  • Check up on relatives & neighbors
  • Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening
  • Wear light-weight & loose-fitting clothing
