Jefferson Health New Jersey Sleep Centers Receive Accreditation
Jefferson Health’s three New Jersey-based Sleep Centers in Cherry Hill, Stratford, and Washington Township have each received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).
To receive accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas that include: personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance.
Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves. Since the American Academy of Sleep Medicine first offered accreditation in 1977, there are now more than 2,500 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country.
Jefferson’s New Jersey-based Sleep Centers each have their own medical director and a staff of specially trained support personnel. The Medical Directors are: Thomas Nugent, MD (Cherry Hill); Jennifer Roszkowski, DO (Stratford); and Thanuja Hamilton, MD (Washington Township).
The centers offer specialized diagnostic testing for an array of sleep disorders, including Obstructive Sleep Apnea, which has been linked to daytime drowsiness, cardiac issues and an increased risk for metabolic conditions, such as diabetes.
